David Michael Bennett here, I play the silver robot “The Spine” in the band Steam Powered Giraffe.
The band and I hope all of you are staying safe and moderately well with the current situation in the world.
We’ve been doing our best to try and provide a tad more entertainment online these last few weeks and will continue doing so, since a lot of us and you are stuck at home. Keep an eye out for more livestream events on our YouTube, along with other social media posts like art prompts, fan art, and the like.
As for this update…
YES! We still have two new songs that will be released in April.
Our studio work from home has not slowed down, which means the band will still be able to work towards our upcoming album “1896”.
We lost about a week of work around the time of the band’s show in February due to myself being sick for three weeks and dealing with our backing musician Michael Reed moving out of the country. You can read more about that here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/cha-cha-cha-34566673
The only thing that is changing on our end is music video releases.
We still plan to make a music video for each song on our upcoming album, but due to having to cancel film dates due to locations being unavailable and the current state of everything…we have to adjust our outlook on music videos.
The current plan is to release the next two new songs in April and then release two new songs every 3-4 months as planned.
These songs will go up on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Bandcamp, our own online store, and all other digital distributors on their respective release dates. We will also hold premieres of these songs on YouTube like we did with our most recent music videos, but they will instead be videos featuring the song audio and individual song album art.
We are still aiming for the album’s Winter 2020 release date.
The official proper music videos for new songs will be delayed. We aren’t sure when we will be able to actually film all of these upcoming music videos, but they are planned already, and when we can, we will film them and put them up online with premieres on YouTube. That might mean only a few are delayed, or all of them. They may even be released after our album is released, we aren’t sure, but they all will get done in time.
The next two new songs will be released sometime in April. We do not have exact release dates yet, but we will announce those publicly when the dates draw closer.
Patrons at the relative tiers on our Patreon will still get early access to the new songs before we release them and Patrons who get their name said in the next two music videos will still get their name said in whatever the next two music videos we get to film are.
Thank you for taking the time to read and catch up with us. We also want to thank everyone who was able to tune in live or watch the archived stream of our recent “Out-of-Makeup Acoustic Show” on our YouTube channel. We’ve received a lot of love and support via online comments and emails from folks who enjoyed us offering that. We would love to keep that up in some form, so stay tuned.
Besides our Portland, Oregon show at the end of May, the band does not have any concerts planned for this year. All in-progress contracts and venue rentals on our end have been put on hold until we are able to perform live again. The Portland, Oregon Show has not been canceled as of yet, but there is the possibility. As we’ve said in other social media posts, the venue will issue refunds should the show be canceled.
Stay safe!
Lots of love <3
